NINER's Bullet-Proof Carbon Rigid Fork!

If you've been following our blog, lately, you might already know that we are super excited about our amped up support of Niner bikes. Especially with our new Demo Fleet starting to make it's way through our doors. We received this little tid-bit from Niner regarding their rigid carbon fiber mountain bike specific fork...leaving us even more excited about their product.

There is a video streaming about online (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_O9PLorYPA) and it shows Chris Sugai, co-founder of Niner Bikes beating the sin out of their carbon fork with a 16oz ball peen hammer. The point of the hammer-test was to portray how even massive hits taken by the fork wouldn't necessarily result in catastrophic failure. To further their claims, Niner sent the bike to the testing facility where the stringent European mountain bike standards are default measures that have to be met...Niner's testing of the already hammered fork not only met, but surpassed the test!
"Niner forks are tested to the new European standards specifically designed for mountain bike use. To pass these safety standards the fork must undergo a load of 650 Newtons, both pushing and pulling on the dropouts for one hundred thousand cycles. Our hammer fork passed this test easily, so we kept going… and we upped the load. At 750 Newtons, the hammer fork passed another hundred thousand cycles, so we kept at it… and at it… In the end we were not able to get this fork to break until after three hundred thousand cycles! The Niner carbon fork tripled the most stringent bike product safety standard out there, after being beaten with a hammer! We would prefer that you didn’t do this to your fork, but it is nice to know how tough these things really are. "
Pretty friggin' awesome, if you ask me! The Demo frames are just now arriving and we will be building them up in the coming weeks. Be sure to stop by and check out these fabulous pieces of machinery, and as always: thanks for reading!

Old Photos of Clemmons Bicycle.

As a new employee here at the shop, I've been curious about the shop's history and luckily Josh was able to dig up a couple old photos from when he and Travis first bought the shop. Included is a photo documenting their first sale! Pretty fun to see how much things have changed and how much things seem to stay the same. :)

Crank Size Arguement...

...Oh Mondays. Not much to report here after a cyclocross-filled weekend other than Josh and Adam's eager anticipation for their cross bikes to arrive. They've been bit-by-bit piecing together their single-speed machines patiently awaiting their limited-edition Raleigh frames to arrive. Today, Josh and Adam's arguement over who gets to run the 175mm crank arms continued and was won by Josh...he's the owner. Better luck next time Adam.

TODAY'S VISIT FROM NINER!

It's always a fun day at the shop when our reps stop by with some new goodies for us to see. It's a great chance for us to learn in-person about our manufacturer's new technology, feedback and recommendations. Today we were lucky to open our shop doors and have a slew of beautiful Niner mountain bikes be walked into the back of our store. To those unfamiliar, Niner is a mountain bike manufacturer from North Hollywood, California. They are the 29-inch afficianados...or as they like to say it, they are: The Big Wheel Revolution! Niner is so confident in their ballot in the battle between 29-inch versus 26-inch mountain bikes, that they've developed their entire product line behind the bigger hoops. And let me just say, 2010 has some impressive models coming to the public inthe very near future. Honestly, I personally would have left our meeting today happy just seeing the Niner One9 single-speed 29er in Electric Blue (the paint actually glows in the dark!)...but when the barely released Niner Air9 Carbon hardtail in Tang (a really cool amber/orange color) came wheeling through the shop, my jaw hit the floor. Hard.
After Josh rolled my bottom lip back to it's more respectable preset position, we got to hear all the nitty-gritty secrets behind this beauty that weighed in, as built, just a hair over 18 pounds! This bike is meticulously crafted. It has beautiful lines and I can all but promise you that it wil move you forward fast...what I can't promise is that you've got the legs to prove it! All kidding aside, this was a prototype model that has never been ridden and will not be ridden until the Air9's start to make their way to the public. Fortunate thing for our customers, we are in the process of setting up a demo day and we're hoping we might have a couple Air9's and other incredible rides from Niner for you to test. For more information, please visit: http://ninerbikes.com/fly.aspx And be sure to stay tuned to the Clemmons Bicycle blog and website as we begin to make 2010 Niner bikes available at our store!

Hawks Nest Cross Fest | November 1, 2009

Travis and Baird took a trip up to Boone this past weekend for some fun in the mud. If y'all didn't know, Travis has a full carbon Scott Addict CX built up with Ritchey Components, Shimano carbon clincher wheels and some schweeeeet Shimano Di2 electric drivetrain!

"Wasn't it rainy and muddy in Boone this past sunday?" you ask. "How did the Di2 hold up?"
Well, it held up great! even after it was put through this...

Josh taught Adam something new!

Today, Josh learned what the word Ethos, meant.

Josh later taught Adam how to fix a front derailleur.

Tough day.

Cookies!

A big thanks goes out to Julie Howe. Julie is a new rider and has slowly become one of our more regular customers. It's tough to remember a day gone by that she hasn't stopped in for a kind hello. Unfortunately, Julie needed a new set of wheels after a minor mishap with a telephone pole (don't act like you've never done it, or driven your roof rack mounted bike into the garage!)...luckily, we were able to get Julie back on the road again with a brand new set of Easton EA90 Areo wheels. It was an unexpected upgrade, but one she is quite happy about so far. We can tell because she brought us some fantastic chocolate chunk cookies today to say thanks. :)
No...thank you Julie!

Welcome!

We at Clemmons Bicycle want to extend a huge welcome to visitors of our new blog! Most of our customers wish they could hangout at the back of our shop with us, all day, but alas most of our customers have day jobs so they can't. This blog is our way of saying, "Let's hangout!" While you're at work, or at home, or wherever you might have your iPhone web browser open, laptop or desktop powered on...now you can keep up to date with everything we're doing right from wherever you are.
